What is Typography?

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point size, line length, line-spacing (leading), letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letters pairs (kerning).

Typography is one of my favorite things when it comes to design. I would call myself a font monger simply because fonts lure me into a design. When I have a project designing a logo per se, my research is ongoing for the right feel for the font and the company. I’m sure most designers do the same thing. When the creative solution appears, I hope whoever sees it understands it like I do. Like the perfect fit in a dress!

Typography however, has taken on such a flair these days. All the hand drawn fonts, the script fonts, accents, glyphs, and the list goes on and on. Playing with the “fun fonts” can take up a lot of my time, but broadens my horizons for sure.
